AP Calculus Credit

If you attend orientation before you have received your AP Calculus score, you may register for a calculus course based on the exam you took and the score you anticipate receiving. If you anticipate a score of 1 you should take the MPE before your orientation for both diagnostic and placement information.

If you did NOT take the AP Calculus Test (or the International Baccalaureate Higher Level Math Exam) and do NOT have college credit for a calculus course you must take the MPE. You will not be allowed to register in any class higher than Math 3C (Precalculus) without permission from the mathematics placement office.

* You may take the MPE for a comparison to the expected math background of students entering beginning calculus at UCSD.
** If you want to take a math class other than Math 3C you must take the MPE at the next convenient date before the quarter starts and add the proper class according to your placement result.

It is your responsibility to carefully check your AP score when you receive it in July. If you are not in the correct class according to the above table then you must use WebReg to drop your math class and add the correct class (or be on a Wait List) by the August 31 deadline. Be sure to have all AP or IB scores sent to the UCSD Office of Admissions. If you are not in the correct class by August 31, you will be administratively dropped from the class by your College without notification but no class will be added to replace it.
