Homework

The homework assignments are online homework by using WebAssign.

Webassign Account Setup:  Online homework will be done using WebAssign. You will log into WebAssign using Canvas as a portal. The first time you log in, you will be asked to make a Cengage account, or to link to an existing Cengage account. You do not need a "Class Key". Please note: You will be added to the WebAssign class by your instructor or course coordinator on the first day of classes. (If you enrolled after the first day of classes, it might take a day or two before you make it into the system.)

Access Codes:  To get an access code for WebAssign, you can either (1) purchase the textbook from the UCSD Bookstore, which comes bundled with a multi-term WebAssign access code, or (2) purchase ELECTRONIC ONLY access from the WebAssign website. If you already have a multi-term access code (because you took Math 20A last quarter, for example) then you may use the same code. If it does not work automatically, you may need to contact Customer Support.

Loggin In:  To access your online homework, sign into your Math 20B course in Canvas, and then click the WebAssign link on the right bar. If you are enrolled in a Math 20B course for Spring Quarter 2021, you will be automatically registered for a Canvas course called WebAssign for MATH 20B - All Sections [SP21] with subtitle MATH20B WebAssign [SP21]. (It may take a few days for you to be entered into the system.)

Trouble Loggin In:  If you have trouble logging into WebAssign, contact WebAssign Student Support.

Due Dates:  Online homework due dates are subject to change based on variations in course schedule or technological issues. All online homework assignments are due at 11:00 pm, unless specified otherwise. Log into WebAssign to see the official due dates.

*Homework 1 is not due until Week 2 to allow for delays in getting access to WebAssign. However, you are strongly encouraged to have Homework 1 done by Thursday, Apr 1, in order to keep pace with the class.

Homework Attempts:  You will be allowed 100 attempts to correctly answer the problems which are not multiple choice problems. You will be allowed ONE attempt to correctly answer the problems which are multiple choice problems.

Late Submissions:  It is possible to request an automatic extension of the due date, but only for one day. (You may request an extension on any and all assignments.) Late submissions earn a maximum of 50% of their total score. This penalty applies only to exercises submitted after the due date and not to those already submitted before the due date.
Note:  Homework may not be submitted after the last day of classes (the Friday of Week 10).

The Webassign is using PDT time. This is probably different from PST time when there is a time change.

Homework Score:  The number of points in each homework assignment is variable, but there are 327 points possible in total. However, the maximum homework score is 300 points. This means that you don't have to do all of the problems in order to get 100%. Any score 300 or better will earn a score of 100%. (It's like dropping one assignment, but the dropped problems don't have to all come from the same assignment.)

More practice problems:  If you need more practice, you can find more suggested exercises here.
