Course:  Math 273A

Title:  Advanced Techniques in Computational Mathematics

Credit Hours:  4

Catalog Description: This is a course on the mathematical foundations and advanced numerical methods for PDEs and nonlocal models of physical systems. Topics include: models of physical systems, elliptic PDEs, boundary value problems, strong and weak solutions, finite difference methods, finite element methods, meshfree methods, convection-dominated diffusion equations, inf-sup conditions, adaptivity, nonlocal models, fractional PDEs, asymptotically compatible schemes.

Textbook: There is no required textbook for this course. Some recommended books and readings will be announced in class.

Lecture:  Lectures will be delivered in person at APM 2402.   Lectures will also be recorded and made available on Podcast .

Grading: Your grade in the course is based on your project and your 15-minute project presentation during the last week of classes. The topic of your project should be decided in consultation with the instructor. Please talk to me at least once before Oct 29 about the topic of the final project. The topic of your project should be decided no later than Nov 12.
