Final
Exam Thursday 12/6 at 8 AM
in lecture room (Center 114)
Q:
What are your office hours for finals week?
A:
Mon 10:00 - 12:30 (I'll stay later if people are around.)
Tues 10:00 - 12:30 (I'll stay later
if people are around.) Math 184A students have priority.
Wed 12-2 (I'll stay later if people
are around.) Math 15B students have priority.
Matt Cecil: Mon 1:00
- 3:00
Q:
What material is covered?
A:
See the note below.
Q:
How long is the final?
A:
I expect it to be about twice as long as the hour exam.
Q:
What are we allowed to bring?
A:
The exam is closed book and NO CALCULATORS are allowed.
You may bring two pages of notes (both sides of page). They
can be handwritten, typed, xeroxed, cut and pasted, or any combination.
Q:
What about all the theorems and definitions we've had?
A:
You are expected to be able to use the concepts in the definitions
and the results in the theorems, but you do not need to be able
to quote them.
Q:
Section GT-4 has two long theorems. They'll take a lot of
space on my notes.
A:
The material in Theorem 7 is "common sense" if you understand
big-oh and Theta notation, so you may not need to write out the
whole theorem in your notes. Theorem 8 (Master Theorem for
Recursions) will be provided on the exam if it is needed.
Material for the Final Exam
The exam is cumulative, but I
expect it will emphasize material since the hour exam. You
are responsible for all the units; however, certain material was
omitted. Here is a list of omitted material by
section.
CL-4: Example 33
Fn-4: Correlation, Tchebycheff's Inequality, Example 23, Example
