David Quarfoot @ UCSD

Teaching

My interests are split across pure/applied mathematics, statistics, programming, and mathematics/statistics education research. As such, I teach a wide variety of courses at UCSD. In all my classes, I maintain high standards through frequent homework sets, challenging exams, and a classroom experience based on active learning rather than passive lecturing. I've always loved teaching and thought it was the most difficult and rewarding thing I've done.

Courses I've taught or am scheduled to teach at UCSD: Math 2, 10A, 10B, 11, 20A, 20B, 181A, 181B, 183, 197/199, and MSED 295 and 296C.

You can find the most up-to-date info on my planned teaching here.

Resources

I use Manim Community Edition to create animations for my classes. You can find these videos here. Note that they have no voice-overs and may be paced quickly because they are intended to be used in classrooms with real-time voice-overs and pausing/unpausing. The code for these is here.

People frequently reach out looking for access to my course materials. Head here to see the materials I am willing to publicly share. If what you're looking for is not at the link (e.g., old homework sets, editable versions of lectures, Socrative activities, etc.), it's because I don't want to or legally can't share them.

Also know that you can listen to podcasts of my current and past courses at UCSD's podcast repository. These might be useful to students around the country who are currently in a class and want a second voice on a topic, or students who have completed a course but need a refresher.
