Calc 1: Differential Calculus

Lecture 12: Derivative Rules

This video is the first of three (1/3) where we provide rules for computing derivatives. It includes some of the basic rules for computing derivatives, including the power rule, the constant rule, the constant multiple rule, and the sum and difference rules.

I recommend that you watch the video Essence of calculus, chapter 3: Derivative formulas through geometry from 3Blue1Brown's "Essence of calculus" series. I think you will find that his videos will give you some nice intuition for why the derivative formulas are what they are. It's easy to think that these derivatives are some esoteric abstraction, but they have a nice physical interpretation that the 3B1B videos highlight very well.
