Online Homework

Homework Option One: Submitting online homework through WileyPLUS.

Homework assignments will be completed and submitted online using the WileyPLUS online homework system. Access WileyPLUS from within TritonEd under "Tools". (If you enrolled after the first day of classes, it might take a day or two before you make it into the system.) In order to use WileyPLUS, you must have a valid WileyPLUS Online Homework code (see below).

**HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE AVAILABLE THE FIRST DAY OF CLASSES.**

Using WileyPLUS

Access WileyPLUS from within TritonEd under "Tools". You will need a WileyPLUS access code.

ACCESS CODES
• To get an access code for WileyPLUS, you can either (1) purchase it from the UCSD Bookstore, which can come with or without a loose-leaf binder-ready version of the textbook, or (2) purchase it from WileyPLUS directly (after first logging in through TritonEd).
• If you already have a multi-term access code (because you took Math 20D last quarter, for example) then you may use the same code. (This is unlikely to be the case this quarter, because we are using a new edition of the textbook.)

Guidelines for submission through WileyPLUS:
  • You have unlimited attempts on the standard "fill-in-the-blank" assignments, but you have only THREE attempts for each question in an assignment labeled "Multiple Choice".
  • All homework is due at 11:00 P.M.

Late Homework

Homework may not be submitted late. Homework due dates are chosen to help students keep to the pace of the course and stay current with the topics covered in the lectures. The "No late homework" policy is designed to encourage students to complete homework assignments on time and reward those who do.

Please understand that individual exceptions cannot be made to the "No late homework" policy. If the system is down at the specified due date, we can postpone the due date for the entire class, but there are far too many students in this class to make individual accommodations.

Online Homework Assignments

Homework Zero     (No due date)

Sections 1.1, 1.2, 1.3

Comments:  We will not discuss these sections in detail in class, but you should read them. They introduce several key ideas that we will revisit throughout the course.

Homework 1     (Online HW Due Friday, Oct 13)

Sections 2.1, 2.2, 2.3

Comments:  We will not spend time in class discussing 2.3 (Modeling with First Order Equations), but this section gives valuable insight into why exactly we want to study differential equations and find their solutions. You should definitely read it.

Comments:  Pay special attention to Table 3.5.1. We likely will not have time to deal with each case in class.

Comments:  Read Sections 1 and 2 in the Math 20D Supplement. These are based on Sections 7.1 and 7.2 in the textbook, but restricted to the 2x2 matrix case.

Homework 6     (Online HW Due Thursday, Nov 16)

Sections 7.3, 7.4

Comments:  Read Sections 3 and 4 in the Math 20D Supplement. These are based on Sections 7.3 and 7.4 in the textbook, but restricted to the 2x2 matrix case.

Homework 7     (Online HW Due Friday, Nov 24)

Sections 7.5, 7.6

Comments:  Read Sections 5 and 6 in the Math 20D Supplement. These are based on Sections 7.5 and 7.6 in the textbook, but restricted to the 2x2 matrix case. We will not cover Section 7.7, which applies to matrices larger than 2x2.

Homework 8     (Online HW Due Thursday, Nov 30)

Sections 7.8, 5.1, 5.2

Comments:  (1) Read Section 8 in the Math 20D Supplement. This is based on Section 7.8 in the textbook, but restricted to the 2x2 matrix case.  (2) Section 5.1 is a review of power series. Since this was covered in Math 20B, which is a prerequisite for this course, we will not discuss 5.1 explicitly in class. You are, however, expected to know this material, and so you should read it before we discuss Section 5.2 in class.
