Homework Guidelines

Homework assignments will be posted to Canvas throughout the quarter. The homework will be submitted directly to Gradescope by the students.

Gradescope Login:   Log into Gradescope using the "Gradescope" link in Canvas.

The name of our Gradescope course is "MATH163_SP20_A00". All students enrolled in the course are automatically enrolled in this Gradescope course. (But make sure to access Gradescope using the link in Canvas the first time you log in.)

You will submit your own homework assignments in this course. You can take pictures with your smartphone and convert them into a scanned PDF. Gradescope has provided a helpful guide to scanning and submitting your assignment as a PDF.

Guidelines for submission through Gradescope:

  • Submissions must be PDF files.
  • If your homework is handwritten, you must upload a scanned document.
  • You may type your homework (using LaTeX, for example) and save your file as a PDF.
  • You may write your solutions using a tablet device.
  • All homework is due at 11:00 P.M.
  • Gradescope will ask you to match each of the exercises with the page on which your solution for that exercise appears.
  • For more information, download the Gradescope how-to PDF.

Academic Integrity:   All homework that you turn in should be your own work. Passing off the work of another as your own is a serious academic integrity violation. You are allowed to consult with other students in the class (in fact, I encourage it!), but the work you turn in should be written by you, in your own words. If you get an idea for a proof from another student, or even from a source online, that is okay, but you should properly cite your sources and give proper credit. Copying homework from another student or from any other sources (including online sources) is not allowed. If you quote from a book, you should always give it as a quotation and properly cite it. Failure to cite your sources could be considered academic misconduct!

Due Dates:   All homework is due at 11:00 P.M. We will allow the first homework (only) to be submitted up to two days late (without penalty). This is to allow for the fact that students may be unfamiliar with the system and may experience some technical issues during the first submission. But this is a one-time only rule. After the first homework, no homework will be accepted late. Please understand that exceptions will not be made because it is unfair to the other students and may cause an undue burden to the grader.
