Homework

There are two types of homework assignments in this course, online homework (which will be graded) and pen-and-paper textbook homework (which will not be graded).

Online Homework

Online homework will be done using WebAssign. Access WebAssign using this link: https://www.webassign.net/wa-auth/login (we will NOT use single sign-on through TritonEd this term). If you enrolled after the first day of classes, it might take a day or two before you make it into the system.

Access Codes:  To get an access code for WebAssign, you can either (1) purchase the textbook from the UCSD Bookstore, which comes bundled with a multi-term WebAssign access code, or (2) purchase ELECTRONIC ONLY access from the WebAssign website. If you already have a multi-term access code (because you took Math 10A last quarter, for example) then you may use the same code. If it does not work automatically, you may need to contact Customer Support. Since we are not using TritonEd integration, you may need to link your new account (username@ucsd.edu) to your old account that you used when accessing through TritonEd (username::app-173@ucsd).

Trouble Loggin In:  If you have trouble logging into WebAssign, contact WebAssign Student Support.

Note:  Your instructor may be listed as Adam Bowers (A Bowers-Coord) in WebAssign. This is because Prof. Bowers is the Math 10B Course Coordinator coordinator this term, and the same WebAssign is being used by all Math 10B instructors this quarter.

Syllabus Quiz:  The Syllabus Quiz is posted in WebAssign. It has 10 question, each one multiple choice or True/False. You have one attempt per question. The quiz is "open syllabus," so you may have the syllabus open when you take the quiz. The Syllabus Quiz is due on the Friday of Week 2 and will be counted towards your homework grade. (One point per question for a total of ten points.)

Diagnostic Test:  There will be an online quiz from the Mathematics Diagnostic Testing Project (MDTP) at the start of the quarter. The details of this quiz will be posted in TritonEd. The quiz is worth 10 points to your homework score (just like the Syllabus Quiz). This is a "diagnostic test" and you will receive the 10 points for simply completing the test. (You will not be graded on performance.)

Due Dates:  Online homework due dates are subject to change based on variations in course schedule or technological issues. All online homework assignments are due at 11:00 P.M., unless specified otherwise.

Late Submissions:  It is possible to request an automatic extension of the due date, but only for 1 day. (You may request an extension on any and all assignments.) Late submissions earn a maximum of 80% of their total score. This penalty applies only to exercises submitted after the due date and not to those already submitted before the due date.

Homework Score:  The total number of points available in WebAssign exceeds the total number of points possible for the course homework score by 10% (of the total available in WebAssign). As an example, if there are 200 points available in WebAssign, then the maximum possible homework score for the class is 180 points. Thus, if your score in WebAssign is X points, then your homework score for the class will be the minimum of X/180 and 180/180. (So it is not possible to get a course homework score above 100%, even though it is possible to earn more than 100% of the points.)

Textbook Homework

These assignments will not be turned in and will be not graded; however, certain exam questions are based on textbook homework problems, so understanding the solutions to these problems should help you perform better on the exams. This page is subject to revision during the term. Please check regularly for updates. (Last updated 02 Jan 2019)
