All poster presenters will have an opportunity to introduce themselves and their posters to the conference participants by giving very brief talks prior to the poster session. The talks will be a few minutes (3 minutes or less) in length (the exact length will be specified later). Because many people will be scheduled to speak within a short period of time, it is essential to adhere to the time limit. You should practice your talk in advance to make sure that you can finish within the allocated time without rushing.

Because of the time limit, you cannot expect to present your work in detail. You should resist the temptation to include more material on your slides than you will have time to talk about, as the audience will not be able to comprehend material that goes by faster than you can speak. Instead, you should view your talk as an opportunity to introduce yourself to the community and to advertise your poster. A successful talk will be one that gives the audience a sense of the kinds of problems you are working on, and that encourages people to spend some time with your poster later on.

Your first slide should be a title slide that contains only your name, your institutional affiliation, and the title of your poster. We recommend that you have 2-3 additional slides containing the content of your talk. By 5pm Pacific Standard Time on Monday, June 6, you should send a PDF file of the slides for your talk to stochnet2016@csusm.edu with the subject line "Stochnet 2016 Presentation: XXX" where XXX is replaced with your first and last name. The PDF files for all of the poster presentations will be combined into a single PDF file, so that we can move from one talk to the next one as efficiently as possible.
