Math 20B - Calculus for Science and Engineering (4 units), Summer Session 2 2019

Course Description: Integral calculus of one variable and its applications, with exponential, logarithmic, hyperbolic, and trigonometric functions. Methods of integration. Infinite series. Polar coordinates in the plane and complex exponentials. (Two units of credits given if taken after Math 1B/10B or Math 1C/10C.)
Prerequisites: AP Calculus AB score of 4 or 5, or AP Calculus BC score of 3, or Math 20A with a grade of C- or better, or Math 10B with a grade of C- or better, or Math 10C with a grade of C- or better.
Textbooks: Calculus: Early Transcendentals by Jon Rogawski and Colin Adams, third edition, and Math 20B Supplement.
Homework: Online homework will be due roughly every Tuesday and Friday. The homework is given through WebAssign, which you should access through Canvas. See the table below for the homework due dates. If you need a homework extension, you can request an automatic extension of 1 day within 2 days of the deadline through WebAssign, but any problems completed after the original deadline will earn a maximum of 80% of the total score. No homework scores will be dropped. There are also textbook homework problems, but these will not be collected or graded. See the table below for the textbook problems.
Exams:
- Midterm Exam 1: Wednesday, August 14 in class
- Midterm Exam 2: Monday, August 26 in class
- Final Exam: Saturday, September 7, 11:30am-2:30pm, location TBD
Exam Policies: You may use one 8.5 by 11 inch handwritten, double-sided sheet of notes during each exam (no photocopies allowed). No cell phones, calculators, books, or any other form of assistance are allowed during exams. Work will be graded for both clarity and correctness. Once exams are returned, you must return your exam immediately to your TA in order to request a regrade. Include a written explanation stating which problem(s) you would like regraded and why. Regrade requests will not be considered once the exam leaves the room. If you do not retrieve your exam during discussion, you must arrange to pick it up from your TA within one week after it was returned in order for any regrade requests to be considered. No make-up exams will be given. You must pass the final in order to pass the class.

Grading: Final grades will be calculated as the maximum of the following two grading schemes and using the following table:

20% Homework, 20% Midterm Exam 1, 20% Midterm Exam 2, 40% Final Exam
20% Homework, 20% Best Midterm Score, 60% Final Exam
