Partial Differential Equations Math 110, Spring quarter 1999:

Office hours: MW: 3:30-4:30, F1:30-2:30

Office: APM 5256, tel. 534-2734

Teaching assistant: Imre Tuba, email: ituba@euclid.ucsd.edu, office: APM 2202

Computation of grade: The grade is computed from your scores in the final (40%), 2 midterms (20% each), the best 3 of 4 quizzes (15%) and homework (5%).

Dates of exams:

Quizzes: 4/9, 4/30, 5/14, 5/28

Midterms: 4/23 and 5/21

Homeworks need to be turned in on 4/15, 5/6 and 6/3, of which selected problems will be graded. It is very important that you also do the homework problems if they need not be turned in as the quiz and most of the exam problems will be variations of homework problems.

Homework assignments

Disclaimer: I will try to get the homework assignment on the net in time. Due to time and other limitations, this may not always be possible. The fact that there is no assignment posted for a particular date does therefore NOT necessarily mean that no homework is due.

Final on Wednesday, 6/9, 3pm-6pm in class room The material goes over the whole quarter, with an emphasis on what we have done towards the end. The problems will be similar, or at least related to homework problems. You are allowed to use up to two sheets 8 1/2' x 11' with hand-written information. No other notes, books or calculators.

Special office hours for exam week: Hans Wenzl: M 3-5, Imre Tuba T 1:30-4

Preparation: Organize the material so that you know when to use which method. Do problems similar to homework problems in the book. For those who did not do very well in the quizzes or midterms: look at the problems and understand what you did wrong (some students who felt that they would have deserved more points in the midterms had not really understood what they had done wrong in their exams). Also, Imre has put the solutions of most homework problems on his webpage. Compare with your own work.
