Location |
Most talks will take place in Robinson Auditorium.
The last talk on Friday will take place in Peterson 102, right next
to the Math Department. This different location is due to circumstances
beyond our control.
We will walk to Peterson Hall together from Robinson Auditorium.
Robinson Auditorium is located in the School of Global
Policy and Strategy (GPS). It is about 5-7 minute walk from the Math
Department in the direction of RIMAC Arena or the Supercomputer Center.
The walking time from Residence Inn/Sheraton is 25-30 minutes.
A
map and further details can be found at campus map and
building locator.
|
Parking | If you drive to campus, parking is free on weekends in the
Pangea Parking Structure. Paid parking is available on Fridays. Overnight parking is not allowed in Pangea Parking
Structure. The conference hall is about 3-5 minute walk from Pangea. Similarly,
Hopkins Parking Structure is about 5 minutes away, and is located behind the Social Sciences Building. Finally, lots P207
and P208 are next to the Math Building. |

- Scanned copies of hotel/airfare/uber receipts are acceptable and could

- Important note for J1 visa holders:
Occasional
lectures or
consultations. Professors and
research scholars may participate in occasional lectures
and short-term consultations, if authorized to do so by
his or her sponsor. Such lectures and consultations must
be incidental to the exchange visitor's primary program
activities. If wages or other remuneration are received
by the exchange visitor for such activities, the exchange
visitor must act as an independent contractor, as such
term is defined in 8 CFR 274a.1(j), and the following
criteria and procedures must be satisfied.
For example if you are a J-1 scholar coming from Yale to
do a lecture here or attend a conference, you should
receive a letter from Yale's International Center
indicating that you are eligible to receive a
reimbursement from UCSD.
Also the request must be done BEFORE the event.

Air Travel |
The participants are asked to make their own
travel arrangements, as early as possible, keeping in mind that
San Diego is a popular tourist destination. We ask the foreign
participants
to fly a US-flag carrier or code partner airline in order to be reimbursed
by
the NSF.
San Diego is served by San
Diego International Airport. La
Jolla and UCSD
are located about 15 miles north of the airport. Uber is the best way to get to La Jolla. A list of shuttles from
the airport can be found here.
|
Accommodation |
We will book hotel rooms for the speakers. We kindly ask all other
participants to make their own travel arrangements.
There are several hotels in La Jolla, which may be a bit more expensive
unless booked in advance. Some of these hotels may be able to offer UCSD
rates, depending on availability.
- Residence
Inn is located at the edge of campus, but it does require a 20-25
minute walk to the conference room
- La Jolla Sheraton is
about the same distance as the previous hotel
- La Jolla Shores Hotel is
about 2.75 miles from campus, close to the beach. There is a bus (route 30,
trip will take at least 30 minutes). They may be able to offer special UCSD
rates
- Empress Hotel is 4 miles
from campus, close to the beach and restaurants. There is a bus (route 30,
trip will take at least 30 minutes). They may be able to offer a UCSD rate
depending on availability
- Inn by the Sea is
close to Empress
- La Jolla Village Lodge is close to Empress. Not such fancy accommodation,
but they may offer more affordable rates
- La Jolla Cove is about 4
miles from campus, but there is a bus (route 30, trip will take at least 30
minutes)
There are other hotels in the area that can be found on the standard
websites.
