COURSE DESCRIPTION

WHAT IS MATH 100B? This is the second in a series of three courses in abstract algebra for students majoring in mathematics at UCSD. In this course we will examine further topics in group theory, rings, fields, and polynomials. We will cover most material in Chapters 8, 3, 4, 5 in the textbook (in that order). Math 100A is a strongly enforced background requirement for this course.

TEXT
  W. Keith Nicholson Introduction to Abstract Algebra, Fourth Edition. (Wiley 2012). The students enrolled in this class are expected to be familiar with the material taught in Math 100A, which is a strongly enforced background requirement for Math 100B. If you need a review in Math 100A, you are strongly encouraged to read on your own Chapter 0, 1, 2 in your textbook and solve some of the exercises within.
