Dear Math 163 Students,

I want to make a few announcements for our last week.

1. There is no class today (Wednesday), June 3.  Use this time to finish your peer reviews and fill
out your CAPEs!

2. Discussion section meets tomorrow (Thursday), June 4.  This will be your last project and it is

3. The final exam is next Monday, Jun 8. The exam is  8:00 am - 10:00 am (only two hours). You have 
an assigned seat in either CENTR 113 or CENTR 212.  Your individual seat assignments are posted to 
your Ted Grade Center. We will be checking IDs, so be sure to bring yours.

4. Solutions for Homeworks 1-4 are posted in Ted.  There is also a Homework 5 that covers Chapter 5. 
(Homework 5 will not be turned in or graded.)

Dear Math 163 Students,

Since we are ahead of schedule for the course (having already covered Cauchy's contributions to calculus), 
I have decided that, in order to encourage everyone to finish their peer reviews, we will cancel 
Wednesday's class. Please use this time to finish your peer reviews and/or fill out your CAPEs for this 
course. 

If you wish to turn in an optional revision to your paper, you can bring it to class on Friday. Remember, 
the revisions are optional. 

I will see you all Friday!

Subject: MATH 163 - Bowers [SP15]: Math 163 Peer Review Process

Dear Math 163 students,

Now that we are in Week 9, and your history papers have been submitted, we are ready to begin the peer 
review process. The entire process will take place using Turnitin through Ted. The steps are as follows:

1. Click on "Content" in the Math 163 Ted course.
2. Click on "View/Complete" under "Paper Peer Review".
3. Click on "Write Reviews" and "Start Review".

You will have three randomly assigned papers to review.  It is possible one of those papers will be your 
own.  This is okay.  We are sure you will review your own paper earnestly and impartially.

When you start a review, you will see the paper as well as seven questions to answer about the paper.  
Please answer the questions to the best of your ability.

Note: The peer review is set up to be anonymous for other students, but your TAs and instructor will be 
able to see which papers were  reviewed by which students.  Please keep your comments professional.

Peer reviews will contribute to the grade of the history paper, but papers will also be evaluated by TAs 
and the instructor.

You will have the option to turn in a revised paper on June 5 (the last day of classes). A revised paper 
must include a short description of the changes made and what issues the changes are intended to address 
(a "revision report").  The revised paper and the accompanying revision report must be either turned in 
at the end of class on June 5 or deposited into a TA's homework drop box by 1:00 pm on June 5.  No late 
submissions will be accepted and no electronic submissions will be accepted.  (Only one paper should be 
turned in per group.)

Please note that revising the paper is optional. If you are happy with your paper as it currently is, 
please do not submit anything else.

Subject: MATH 163 - Bowers [SP15]: Math 163 History Paper

Dear Math 163 Students,

Reminder: Your History Papers are due this Friday, May 22, at 11:59 pm.  The papers are to be submitted 
in Ted using Turnitin.  Please select one member of your group to submit the paper.  (Turnitin does not 
work well with groups.) Make sure that everyone in the group is listed on the first page of the paper 
and place an asterisk (*) next to the name of the member of your group that submitted the paper. (Do not 
include your PID or contact information as the rest of the class will be able to see and read your paper.)

In order to keep better track of who belongs to which group, we would like you to name your group.  
Everyone in a group should decide on one name for the group.  Please be prepared with your group name 
during discussion section this week (Thursday, May 21). (Please avoid the use of any vulgar or 
insensitive names.) You will also be asked for the number of people in your group.

Subject: MATH 163 - Bowers [SP15]: Math 163 Discussion Sections and Turnitin

Dear Math 163 students,

Discussion Sections will meet tomorrow (Thursday, May 14). This is an "off-week" meeting so that the TAs 
can return your exams and homework.  There will not be a project during this week's Discussions.

Your history papers are due Friday, May 22. (Please see the course calendar above.) Your paper is to be 
submitted using Turnitin through the Ted learning management system. (Submissions are currently being 
accepted.) If you are in a group of more than one person, you will need to designate one member of your 
group to submit your paper to Turnitin. (It turns out that Turnitin is not set up to accept papers from 
groups.)

Make sure that all members of your group are listed on the first page of your paper so that all members 
will receive a grade for the paper. [Put an asterisk (*) next to the name of the group member who is 
submitting the paper.] Please do not include your PID, email address, street address, or oher contact 
information, because your papers will be accessable to the other students in the class.

Subject: MATH 163 - Bowers [SP15]: Math 163 Midterm Exam

Dear Students,

An example of a sample midterm for this course has been posted to Ted (under "Course Information"). However, 
the topics in this course vary from year to year and the sample exam covers material which we did not cover 
at all this term. The sample exam will give you some idea of the structure of the exam, but the content is 
meaningless to us.

HOWEVER: The instructions for the sample exam are the same as the instructions for our exam. Also, just 
like in the sample exam, there will be a Question Zero on our exam. Question Zero is worth 1 point. In 
order to earn this point, you must include your name, PID, and Discussion Section number on the first page 
of the exam. You can find your Discussion Section number in your Ted Grade Center.

Dear Math 163 Students,

I know that some were hoping we could move the date of the midterm exam. However, I have received multiple 
requests to leave the exam date as it was originally scheduled.  The decision to change a scheduled exam 
date must be unanimous, and so our midterm exam will remain on the Monday of Week 6.

This webpage contains the class syllabus and a course calendar.  The calendar will help you keep track 
of what is due when and indicates when you have discussion sections.  (Please notice that you do not 
have discussion sections this week.)

In the near future, the webpage will also contain information about the paper that you will be writing 
for the course. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the class!
